I’ve got hundreds of hours of home diary movies, – from regular 8mm, started when I was in High School, to HD video today. All which I’m going to give to the ACMI archives.
Starting with the Super 8 sections, this introduction is to explain why I think, as an aging man, this archive of images is worth saving. I’m expecting this to change as I get to my later video product (where the technology creaps in, and again as I get to digital, but let’s start here. Why do I archive?
It’s to put off as long as I can, that time as anxious Seamus Heaney was, when he worried about when ‘the memorable bottoms out, Into the irretrievable.’
As to how history sees my efforts, I just hope I can avoid having to stop talking like Ezra Pound did so he didn’t destroy his reputation.
